If you are the owner of a Samsung Smart TV then you have probably come across the annoyance of not being able to fully close apps on your TV.
For speed and convenience, your Samsung TV usually keeps apps running in the background.
This can often mean though that the app gets stuck in a loop, and you are unable to close it.
How Do I Close The Apps On My Samsung Smart TV?
With most apps you can simply press the return or exit button on the controller and the TV will close the app and return you to the main menu.
However there are some stubborn apps which simply jump to the background, and don’t close completely.
Netflix in particular is a good example of an app which will do this.
Fortunately Samsung have built in a way to complete a hard reset on the TV which will close all active apps.
Performing a Hard Reset To Kill Apps On Your Samsung TV
It’s not obvious how to fully reset an app on a Samsung TV. However the following is recommended by Samsung customer support.
If you are seeing for example the spinning circle on Netflix then try the following:
Take your remote control
Point it at the screen
Hold the power button down for a minimum of 5 seconds (or until the TV powers down)
Wait for a few moments and then turn the TV back on
You should notice that any apps now boot up from scratch. This is because you have just completed a full reset of your TV.
So next time your apps or Samsung TV freezes, try the above steps.

Yes, and I’m reading this article because I don’t like that 5s power approach! the whole tv box needs to startup again, and depending on what model of Samsung TV you have it’s annoying to wait until 1 WIFI reconnected 2 Main Menu is actually usable and not just visible because loading behind the scenes.
